Dr. Renda Hodnett, Assistant Secretary for Child Welfare at the Department of Children and Family Services, Judge David Matlock, and Mark Harris and Michelle Gros from the Pelican Center for Children and Families spoke to Step Forward’s My Brother’s Keeper network about their My Community Cares Program Improvement Plan and how it will tie in the the NWLA Thrive initiative.

Louisiana’s My Community Cares initiative envisions a state where children and families are safe, stable, and self-sufficient one family and one community at a time. It’s goal is that Department of Children and Family Services will partner with local communities to build and support communities to provide a comprehensive array of services, from prevention to permanency; and, effective delivery of services that strengthen protective capacities of families to prevent maltreatment, recurrence and entry into care, shorten foster care stays, reduce trauma, placement disruptions and more restrictive placements, and supports the safety, stability, and self-sufficiency of Louisiana families and children.
